Starting a hanfu wardrobe can feel overwhelming – there are so many styles, pieces and rules. Here are the five beginner-friendly pieces we recommend to most new customers at huayunge.
1. A classic horse-face skirt
The single most versatile hanfu item. Wear it with a robe, a blouse or even a t-shirt. Start with a plain or lightly embroidered one from the horse-face skirt collection.
2. A cross-collar top
Pairs with skirts, trousers and modern denim. A neutral colour (white, cream, black) goes with everything.
3. A simple Ming set
Ready-made Ming dynasty sets remove the guesswork – top and skirt already matched. Choose one with an embroidered skirt for festivals, plain for daily wear.
4. A Song-style robe
Light, layered and effortlessly elegant. The Song style collection is ideal if you prefer a minimalist look.
5. A modern new-Chinese set
If you plan to wear hanfu-inspired clothing daily, new Chinese style is the most practical – machine washable, fitted and office-friendly.
Before you order
Read our hanfu size guide first: Asian sizes run 1-2 sizes smaller than Western sizes, and hanfu tops are meant to be roomy. When in doubt, size up.
