New Chinese Style

New Chinese Style (新中式)
New Chinese style keeps the details that make Chinese clothing recognisable — stand collars, frog buttons, jacquard fabric, embroidery, qipao-style plackets — and applies them to modern garment shapes. The result is clothing you can wear to work, to dinner and to travel without looking like a costume.
How it differs from hanfu
Hanfu reconstructs historical construction; new Chinese style translates the aesthetic into contemporary cuts. Traditional hanfu is loose and layered; new Chinese style is usually fitted through the waist. Our new Chinese style vs traditional hanfu guide explains the difference in detail.
Popular pieces

Retro V-neck top — a fitted top with three-dimensional floral detail.
Full-embroidery dress — formal new Chinese style.
Modified hanfu dress — everyday spring and autumn wear.
Short-sleeve hanfu top — the easiest entry point.

How to choose
Because these are modern cuts, fit matters more than in traditional hanfu. Check shoulder and bust measurements, and size up if between sizes.
